Radcliffe Heavyweight Crew Readies for Clemson Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew heads to the Clemson Invitational this weekend to race against some of the nation's top squads. The varsity eight, second varsity, varsity four and third varsity will all head to South Carolina to row against 21 teams, while the second varsity four and 4V will race on the Charles against MIT and UMass.

Clemson Invite
Radcliffe will be one of 21 teams competing at the Clemson Invite on Lake Hartwell, including Ivy League foes Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth and Penn. The varsity eight will race three times, against ranked foes No. 12 Washington State, No. 13 UCLA, No. 15 Wisconsin, No. 18 Syracuse and No. 18 Clemson, 

In the Polls
Radcliffe remains at No. 14 in the latest NCAA rankings with 144 points. The Black and White opened the season at No. 11 and falls just behind UCLA (148 points). Brown owns the top spot with 12 first place votes, followed by California and Ohio State. 

Last Time Out
The Black and White earned its 14th Allen-DeWolfe Trophy and 15th Rowlands Trophy with wins over Boston University and Northeastern, respectively, last Sunday. Radcliffe swept the five-race event, winning all by open water in the final home regatta of the season.

In the Launch
In her 28th season of guiding the Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crews in 2013-14, head coach Liz O'Leary owns a 191-94 career dual record with 14 appearances in the NCAA Championship, including the 2003 title and a 2005 bronze medal finish.  

Last Season
The Radcliffe varsity eight finished eighth overall at the NCAA Championships a season ago, leading the squad to an 11th-place showing. The second varsity placed fourth overall at the event.
