CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- After finishing second in team points at the Ivy League Women's Rowing Championship May 19, the Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew has been selected to the field of the NCAA Rowing Championships. The Black and White will join 21 other institutions vying for a national title in Indianapolis, Ind. May 31-June 2.
Radcliffe, which featured the No. 8 ranked first varsity crew in the country prior to the Ivy regatta, is one of five Ivy League teams invited to Indianapolis' Eagle Creek Park. The varsity eight will start the championship in heat one against USC, Yale, Washington State and Oklahoma.
The Black and White's top boat enters following a third-place showing behind Princeton and Yale at the Ivy League regatta. The 1V boat went 10-3 in dual competition, including wins over NCAA qualifiers Boston University, Brown, Cornell and Princeton.
Radcliffe will see California, Wisconsin, Michigan and Boston University in the second varsity heat. The varsity four will take on Brown, Yale, Virginia, Boston University and Marist.
The second varsity placed second at the Ivy League championship, while the varsity four came in fourth.
The Black and White will race in the NCAA regatta for the third straight year and 15th time during the 17-year history of the event. Radcliffe earned a varsity eight bid in 1997 and then team berths in eight straight seasons and again in 2007, '08, '09, '11 and '12. Radcliffe won the NCAA team and varsity eight championships in 2003.
