CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Kathy Delaney-Smith, the head coach for Harvard women's basketball, has announced the addition of two freshmen to the roster for the 2018-19 season as the class of 2022.
Harvard's incoming freshmen, Maggie McCarthy and Tess Sussman, join a roster that features 12 returning letterwinners. The Crimson posted an 18-11 overall record and went 10-4 in the Ivy League on its way to earning an at-large berth to the WNIT. The postseason appearance was the 14th in program history and eighth in the WNIT, the most of any Ivy school.
Guard - 5-10 - Medfield, Mass. – Medfield HS
Four-year starter on the basketball, soccer and lacrosse teams at Medfield … Captained all three teams, including two years for the basketball team … Played AAU for Mass Premier Swish as a freshman and NEX Elite as a sophomore and junior … Earned Tri-Valley League MVP honors for basketball three consecutive years … Three-time Boston Herald All-Scholastic … 2018 Boston Herald Dream Team member … USA Today All-Massachusetts Girls' Basketball team … Was an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star and Tri-Valley League first team selection 2014-17 in soccer … Three-year Tri-Valley League first team All-Star for lacrosse … Helped Medfield capture 2017 Division II State Championship, scoring her 1,000 point in the victory … Second-highest scorer in Medford history with 1,482 points and led the program with 416 steals … National Honor Society … National Merit Scholar … Spanish National Honor Society … Grandfather played in the NBA for Rochester Royals, St. Louis Hawks and Boston Celtics … Father, John, played football and basketball at Amherst … Mother, Sue, was a three-sport athlete at Amherst (soccer, basketball and lacrosse).

"Maggie's athleticism and versatility will prove to be a significant advantage for her as she begins her career. We are excited about her ability to score the ball at all three level and her unselfish nature."

Played basketball (four years), volleyball (two years) and soccer (one year) at The Rivers School … Captained both the basketball and volleyball teams for two seasons … Played AAU for the MPC Swish and NEX Elite … Three-time NEPSAC All-Star … All-ISL first team from 2014-18 … ISL MVP 2017-18 … Three-time Holiday Tournament MVP … In volleyball, was All-ISL 2017 and 2018 … Was a 1,000-point scorer and All-America nominee at Rivers … High Honor Roll … Member of the Gay Straight Alliance and Rivers Racism Inclusivity Club … Sister, Maeve, plays basketball at Vassar … Cousin, Evan, was on the 2018 Olympic bobsled team.

"As a local player, we followed her for years and watched her grow and develop into a very strong, versatile player. Because she has a high basketball IQ, she has the potential to impact on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she can get to hoop and is a great passer. Defensively, they don't come any tougher!"
