CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman guard Katie Benzan earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced today (Feb. 27). This marks the sixth time that Benzan has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the conference. Benzan had two great all-around games against Yale and Brown this past weekend, as Harvard (20-5, 8-4 Ivy League) followed a tough loss in New Haven with a big win at Brown (W, 66-63) to clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
Benzan scored 14 points with four three-pointers, adding two rebounds, two assists, and a block on Friday night against Yale.
On Saturday against Brown, Benzan notched a career high 24 points, including 16 in the second half to help Harvard beat the Bears, 66-63. Benzan put Harvard ahead for good against Brown, hitting a key shot with under a minute to play. With the game tied at 59-59, Benzan hit a one handed floater in the lane with 43 seconds to play. She added six assists, a rebound and a steal in the game.
Harvard returns home next weekend (March 3-4) to play Princeton and Penn, and will honor its three seniors, Nunley, Taylor Finley, and Grace Keane. Both games will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
