Track and Field Welcomes 26 Freshmen

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Jason Saretsky, The William W. "Bill" McCurdy Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, announced 26 new members in the track and field and cross country class of 2022. The group joins Harvard from 12 states and five countries.

"I'm so excited for our incoming recruiting class to arrive on campus as we have another stellar class that will make immediate contributions to both our men's and women's teams. I'm impressed by the quality recruits our coaching staff was able to add to our program and we continue our commitment to having a complete team," said Saretsky. "We once again are bringing in high school national champions and individuals who have represented their countries in international competitions and I'm confident they will add to our storied history of success.  It will be great to have all of these student-athletes be a part of our program for the next four years." 

Last season, the Harvard women's team finished second at both the indoor and outdoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. In men's cross country, Hugo Milner returns as the highest-finishing freshman at Heps, where he became the Crimson's first All-Ivy runner since 2014. Harvard returns numerous Ivy League champions from the track and field season as junior Simi Fajemisin won the triple jump with a Harvard-record 43'.25", while seniors Myles Marshall (1:52.19) and Katheryn Gillespie (2:09.77) won the 800m. Senior captain Gabby Thomas was named one of 10 semifinalists for The Bowerman, collegiate track and field's highest honor.

"Sharelle could be the next in a line of NCAA-elite 400 hurdlers at Harvard. Despite arriving with outstanding credentials, we believe she has a lot of room for growth in her main events. This summer, at the World Jr. Championships in Finland, she anchored the Canadian 4x400m relay to a new national junior record. In 2017, she won a silver medal in the 400m hurdles at the Commonwealth Youth Games. We're excited about helping Sharelle develop." - Coach Tolbert
