Gabby Thomas Named Semifinalist For The Bowerman

Junior Gabby Thomas is one of 10 semifinalists for The Bowerman, the nation's highest honor in collegiate track & field.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Junior sprinter Gabby Thomas was named one of 10 semifinalists for The Bowerman, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today.

Thomas, a USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the 200 meters, placed second at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in her signature event, her best career finish at the national meet. Thomas also earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honors in the 100 meters, placing 14th at the NCAA Outdoor meet.

The USTFCCCA Northeast Women's Track Athlete of the Year, Thomas ran wind-legal, school record times of 11.19 and 22.32 this spring, along with wind-aided times of 10.99 and 22.13. At Ivy League Outdoor Heps, Gabby won the 100m, 200m, long jump, and ran on winning 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. She was named Ivy League Most Outstanding Tack Performer of the Meet and Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet. Thomas was also selected to The Bowerman Post-Conference Championships Watch List.

The Bowerman is the nation's highest accolade given to the year's best student-athlete in American collegiate track and field. Thomas became the first Ivy League woman to be named to the Watch List since Princeton's Julia Ratcliffe on Jan. 8, 2015 after an outstanding indoor campaign. She became the first Ivy League women's sprinter to win an indoor national championship in the 200m, setting a new collegiate record with her 22.38 mark in the final event heat of the NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field Championships at Texas A&M.

From this list of 10, three will be selected as finalists for collegiate track & field's highest honor, which will be awarded in San Antonio on December 20 at the USTFCCCA Convention.
