Thomas Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

Gabby Thomas was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after an incredible weekend at Ivy Outdoor Heps.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Junior sprinter Gabby Thomas was honored as the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after her incredible weekend at the 2018 Ivy Outdoor Heptagonal Championships in Philadelphia.

Thomas won five Outdoor Heps titles and was again the star of the show, winning the 100m (11.27), setting a new meet record with her win the 200m (22.76), and winning the 4x100m relay (45.16) along with teammates Ngozi Musa, Karina Joiner, and Olivia Okoli before an incredible showing in the 4x400m relay.

Trailing by nearly 30 meters before the start of her anchor leg, Thomas ran a 49.44 final leg to edge Columbia at the finish line for a 3:36.35 final time. She teamed with Maya Miklos, Okoli, and Joiner for the win.

On Saturday, Thomas won the women's long jump, setting a new program record by reaching 21-8¼ on her final jump of the afternoon. For her efforts she was named Ivy Outdoor Heps Most Outstanding Track Performer and Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet.

This marks the first time that a Harvard athlete has earned USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors since 2016.
