Day 1 Recap
LEXINGTON, Ky. – On the final day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet, senior Efe Uwaifo (triple jump) and sophomore Gabby Thomas (200 meters) each qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with strong performances in their respective events.
Thomas had the fastest time of the day in the 200-meter dash, winning her heat in 22.56 seconds, her best mark of the season in the event. Thomas will compete in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash in Eugene for the first time in her collegiate career.
Uwaifo placed ninth overall in the triple jump to punch his ticket to Eugene, reaching 51'5½" on his first effort of the afternoon. He returns to the NCAA outdoor meet for the first time since 2014.
Freshman Simi Fajemisin narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NCAA outdoor championships, placing 13th overall in the triple jump (42'6¼"), her best effort of the outdoor season in the event.
In other action, senior Nikki Okwelogu placed 25th in the shot put (51'0), and freshman Donagh Mahon finished 36th in the high jump (6'6¾"). Senior Julian Nunally wrapped up his collegiate career, placing 34th in the discus throw (171'10").
In the 5000-meter run, freshman Judy Pendergast took 33rd place (17:10.93), while junior Elianna Shwayder finished 36th (17:13.71).
The women's 4x100-meter relay team finished 19th overall, finishing in 45.18.
