CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With just two weekends of regular season competition remaining in the indoor track and field schedule, Harvard will be in action twice in the coming days. On Friday, Feb. 6, Harvard will host the Crimson Elite meet at the Gordon Indoor Track beginning at 2:30 p.m., before heading over to Boston University Saturday, Feb. 7 for the Scarlet and White Invitational, set to begin at 10 a.m.
Eight schools will be represented at Gordon Track Friday with the likes of BU, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville (women), Portland State, Columbia and Northeastern joining the Crimson. Field events kick off competition Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the women's weight throw. Track events get underway at 4 p.m. with the women's 60 meter hurdles.
Saturday's competition begins at 10 a.m. with a combination of field events. Running events once again commence with the 60 meter hurdles at 11 a.m. BU will serve as the host of the meet at its Track and Tennis Center.
The 2014-15 season has been full of top marks for the Crimson thus far. On the women's side, Harvard has posted the top Ivy League time or distance in five events. Erika Veidas has the top marks in the 800 meter (2:05.80) and 1,000 meter (2:46.71) races, Danielle Barbian matched her Ivy League record of 7.44 in the 60 meter dash, Autumne Franklin has the fastest 60 meter hurdles time at 8.62 and Nikki Okwelogu holds the top shot put mark at 52-9.5 (16.09m).
Harvard's men have posted the top Ivy League times and distances in four events. Rookie Malcolm Johnson has made a splash since arriving in Cambridge. The Sylvania, Ohio native sprinted his way to the top times in the 60 meter (6.75) and 200 meter (21.62) races, Connor Reck holds the top spot in the 800 meter race at 1:50.78 and Will Geiken registered a time of 14:16.99 in the 5,000 meter.
Harvard concludes the regular season at home on Saturday, Feb. 14 hosting the H-Y-P meet at Gordon Track. The Crimson will also host the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships from February 28 – March 1.
