CALABAR, Nigeria – Harvard track and field rising sophomore Nikki Okwelogu competed at the Nigerian National Championships over the weekend, winning a title in the shot put and placing second in the discus with a lifetime best and Ivy League record-breaking throw.

Winning her first national title, Okwelogu tossed the shot put 15.40m in a steady downpour. The Fresno, Calif., native – who holds dual citizenship and will be representing Nigeria at the 2014 World Jr. Championships – used a personal-best throw of 53.31m (174-11) in the discus to pass the Ivy League record.
