Skiing Gears up for Williams Carnival

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Harvard ski team is splitting states this weekend, Feb. 14-15 to compete at the Williams Carnival. The alpine squad is set to stay in-state, competing at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Mass. Due to projected course conditions and inclement weather, the nordic skiing events have been moved from Woodstock, Vt. to Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y. The nordic competitions will still be contested on Feb. 14-15.

The alpine group is scheduled to compete in the giant slalom races on the first day of competition, starting at 9:15 a.m. with the women, while the men's first run is set for 10:30 a.m. On the second day of competition, Feb. 15, the team will contest the slalom skiing events, this time the men's first run starting off the day at 9:15 a.m.

On the nordic side of competition, the team is slated to compete in the 10k classic on Friday, Feb. 14. The men will race first, starting at 10:00 a.m, while the women's race is slated for 12:00 p.m. On day two of competition, the Crimson will compete in the 3x5 skate relays, commencing at 9:30 a.m.

What to Know

  • First-year Rémi Drolet placed first in the men's 20km classic at the Bates Carnival Feb. 8, marking the first time a nordic skier has placed first since Anna McLoon in the 2003-04 season.
  • Junior Nellie Ide placed fifth last weekend, marking one of the best women's slalom finishes in the decade.
