Nordic Skiing Finishes Strong at U.S. Cross-Country Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Members of the Harvard nordic ski team competed at the U.S. Cross-Country Championship last weekend, Jan. 3-4, at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Craftsbury Common, Vermont. A total of 13 Crimson skiers competed across the weekend in long-distance and sprint-distance events in preparation for the team's upcoming season opener.  

Leading the charge for the men, first-year James Kitch had a standout performance, placing 56th out of 303 in the men's 15km with a time of 45:21.9. Kitch also logged a 55th place finish in a field of 276 competitors in the men's classic sprint, posting a time of 3:35.14 to cap his weekend. On the women's side, senior Hannah Hardenbergh finished strong across the weekend, ranking 31st in the women's skate sprint event with a time of 3:44.0. The Edwards, Colo. native also picked up top-100 finishes in both the classic sprint event and the 10km with times of 4:18.0 and 35:51.1.

The Harvard nordic squad opens its season this weekend, Jan. 11-12, at the St. Lawrence Carnival on Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y.
