Four Softball Players Earn All-Region Accolades

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four members of the Harvard softball team were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Northeast All-Region team announced Thursday morning. Senior Maddy Kaplan and juniors Rhianna Rich, Meagan Lantz and Katie Duncan were amongst the 389 student-athletes from 164 institutions to receive the regional honors.

After being selected to the All-Ivy first team last Wednesday afternoon, Kaplan was named to the All-Region first team for the third time in her career. A four-time All-Region selection, the southern California native led the Crimson with nine multiple RBI games in 2018, while registering a team-long 13-game hitting streak from March 9 through April 6.

Rich joined Kaplan on the All-Region first team earning regional honors for the second straight year. The unanimous All-Ivy selection experienced a career year in the middle infield, posting a .442 batting average with eight doubles, six triples, two homeruns and 28 RBI. Additionally, she found herself ranked amongst Division I's top-10 leaders in batting average, triples, triples per game and runs per game.

Lantz was named to the All-Region second team at the DP/utility position. Coming off an injury in her sophomore season, the southeastern Florida native posted a .376 batting average, while being the 76th toughest player to strikeout in the nation.

Duncan, the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year and All-Ivy first team selection, rounded out the four Crimson players to earn NFCA regional honors being named to the All-Region third team. The northern New Jersey native registered a career year in the circle with a 15-9 mark, including a 9-3 record against Ivy opponents, with a 2.75 ERA and 79 strikeouts.

Harvard's four regional selections are the most amongst Ivy League institions, and second most selections since 2011.
