Harvard will make its second straight appearance in the NCAA
tournament (Kevin Burns).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With its second straight Ivy League title in hand, the Harvard softball team will travel to Seattle, Wash., May 17-20 for the regional round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. It is Harvard’s second straight berth in the NCAA softball tournament.
The Crimson will face the host Washington Huskies at Husky Softball Stadium in its first game of the regional round. Maryland and Texas Tech, who Harvard faced in the elimination game of last year’s NCAA regional round, are the other two teams making the trip to Seattle.
The Crimson earned its way into the NCAA tournament thanks to a sweep of Penn Friday in the Ivy League Championship Series. Senior Rachel Brown spun a three-hit shutout collecting four strikeouts, helping Harvard clinch a 1-0 win in Game 1 of the championship series. The Crimson turned up the offense in Game 2, connecting on 12 hits and plating five runs, while Brown earned her second save of the season to clinch the 5-2 win for the Crimson.
