Sailing Posts Top-Five Finish at Marchiando Team Race

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a trio of local races this weekend, the Harvard sailing team recorded three top-10 placements. The Crimson's highest finish came at the Marchiando Team Race where Harvard claimed fourth place. The women's team registered a ninth-place finish at the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy, while the co-ed squad notched a seventh-place mark at the BU Trophy.

At the Marchiando Team Race, the Crimson tallied a 14-10 record over the course of the regatta. Harvard ended round one with a 9-6 record, posting wins over Boston University, Brown, Charleston, Coast Guard, Dartmouth, Hobart and William Smith, and South Florida. Advancing to the Gold Top Six, the Crimson went 3-2 with victories over Boston College, MIT and Roger Williams. In the final round, Harvard gained two more wins over Roger Williams and Bowdoin to, contributing to its fourth-place overall finish.

Harvard picked up a seventh-place finish at the BU Trophy down the river. Jonas Nelle and Gayatri Balasubramanian competed for the Crimson in the A-Division, placing seventh with 72 points. The duo captured six top-five placements, two of which were top-two. In the B-Division, Owen Schafer and Maria Tarazona Guzman also registered a seventh-place finish, tallying four top-five finishes in their division.

At the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy, the women placed ninth with 308 points after a head-to-head tiebreaker with Connecticut College. Taylor Ladd, Lucy Wilmot, Kirstin Anderson and Jessica Williams sailed in the A-Division, recording 10 top-10 finishes for a seventh-place finish. In the B-Division, Taylor Gavula and Emily Wang finished eighth with five top-five placements.

What's Next?
The Crimson will return to action with three regattas next weekend, April 7-8. Harvard will sail in the NE Team Race Championship at Connecticut College, the Emily Wick Trophy at Coast Guard and the Mystic Lake Team Race at Tufts.
