Sailing Captures Three Top-10 Placements

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its third weekend of spring competition, the Harvard sailing team captured three top-10 finishes, March 24-25. The Crimson earned its highest placement at the BC Team Race, sailing to a second-place finish, while also earning third and seventh-place finishes at the BU Team Race and Aaron Szambecki Team Race, respectively.

At the BC Team Race, Harvard tallied a 12-3 record at the end of the competition. Dylan Farrell, Nicholas Karnovsky and Henry Burnes raced for the Crimson at skipper, while Lena Episalla, Jessica Williams and Emma Jakobson sailed at crew. In the first round, Harvard recorded victories over Bowdoin, Coast Guard and Dartmouth, before posting a 5-0 record in round two. Closing out the race, the Crimson went 4-1 with wins over Bowdoin, Brown, Coast Guard and Dartmouth to earn its second-place finish.

In trying conditions, Harvard picked up a third-place victory at the BU Team Race. Taylor Gavula, Owen Schafer and Jackson Wagner sailed for the Crimson at skipper, while Emily Wang, Emily Malpass and Gayatri Balasubramanian raced at crew. Harvard notched six wins in the first two rounds of competition, including two wins each over MIT and Salve Regina. Adding two more victories in the final round, the Crimson finished the race with an 8-7 overall record for third-place.

At the Aaron Szambecki Team Race, the Crimson registered a 6-8 record for seventh-place. Harvard earned three wins in the first round of the regatta, picking up victories over Cornell, Tufts and Kings Point. Entered into a consolation bracket, the Crimson posted a 3-2 record to finish the race.

What's Next
Harvard will host the Central Series 3 next weekend, March 31-April 1, while also traveling to. Brown for the Dellenbaugh Trophy and MIT for the Marchiando Trophy Team Race.
