Sailing Posts First-Place Finish at Southern New England Team Race

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard sailing team posted a first-place finish in the Southern New England Team Race this weekend, March 17-18. The Crimson also made appearances in the Ike Geiger Team Race Trophy and the Vietor Trophy, earning third and eighth-place finishes, respectively.

At the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College, the Crimson won the event while posting a 14-4 record. Nick Sertl, Nick DiGiovanni, Taylor Ladd and Henry Burnes sailed at skipper for the Harvard, while Christine Gosioco, Catherine Tang and Kirstin Anderson raced as crew. In the first round of competition, Harvard earned seven wins over Bowdoin, Coast Guard, Connecticut College, Michigan, NY Maritime, MIT and Tufts. The Crimson continued its success in round two, earning another 7-2 record and only dropping races to Bowdoin and MIT.

The Crimson posted a 6-2 record at the Ike Geiger Team Race Trophy, placing third after a three way tie-breaker with Boston University and Roger Williams. Sailing at crew and skipper for Harvard, Nicholas Karnovsky, Dylan Farrell, Eli Burnes, Jessica Williams, Zennie Wey and Kevin Coakley tallied wins over MIT, Northeastern, Roger Williams, Boston College, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Tough weather conditions proved for a difficult day of racing at the Vietor Trophy hosted by Coast Guard. Taylor Gavula and Emily Wang raced in the A-Division for Harvard, recording a fourth-place finish with 16 points. The duo earned all top-10 finishes in their three races. In the B-Division, Lucy Wilmot, Alejandra Resendiz and Tess Avery tallied 33 points to contribute to the Crimson's overall eighth-place finish.

What's Next
Harvard will race in the Szambecki Trophy Team Race, the BU Team Race and the Central Series 2, next weekend March 24-25.
