Sailing Earns Three Top-10 Placements

 

The Harvard sailing team competed in four regattas over the weekend (Athletic Communications). 

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Splitting up to compete in four regattas over the weekend, the Harvard women's sailing team raced in the Regis Bowl and Rogers Trophy, while the coed team sailed in the Harvard Invitational and Smith Trophy.

The Crimson hosted the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30, earning a fifth-place overall finish. Sailing in the A-Division, Jonas Nelle and Zennie Wey secured eighth place with 41 points. Juan Crestanello and Renwick Wilson sailed in the B-Division, posting 58 points for 11th place.

At the Smith Trophy hosted by MIT, Harvard endured challenging conditions through consistent rain and wind. The Crimson finished the regatta in sixth place with 221 points. Andrew Puopolo and Emily Wang finished with 105 points in the A-Division, just three points shy of fifth-place Northeastern. In the B-Division, Owen Schafer and Divya Arya earned a seventh-place finish for the Crimson.

The women's team competed in the Rogers Trophy hosted by Cornell this weekend. Emma Jakobson and Emily Malpass earned seventh place in the B-Division with 60 points, while Catherine Kerner and Iulianna Tarista placed 10th in the A-Division. The Crimson finished the regatta at ninth place with 136 points, just two points behind Northwestern.

At the Regis Bowl hosted by Boston University, the women's team finished 11th overall after a head-to-head tiebreaker with Bowdoin. In the B-Division, Jessica Williams, Kirstin Anderson and Victoria Marquez earned 69 points, narrowly missing seventh-place Yale by one point and sixth-place Boston College by seven points. Taylor Gavula and Tess Avery sailed to a 12th place finish in the B-Divison, contributing 84 points to the Crimson's 153 overall points.

What's Next?
Harvard competes in two regattas next weekend Oct. 7 and 8, including the Barnett Trophy hosted by Bowdoin and the Moody Trophy hosted by URI.
