Harvard Athletics Announces 2017 Sailing Schedule

The Crimson opens the season at the Charleston Women's Regatta on Feb. 25 (Athletic Communications).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –The Harvard sailing team will compete in 26 regattas throughout the spring semester, Harvard Athletics announced Wednesday. The Crimson will open the 2017 slate Feb. 25, sailing at the Charleston Women's Regatta at the College of Charleston.

The Crimson is set to compete in a pair regattas for the second weekend of competition March 4 and 5. The first event will be the Sharpe Trophy team race held at Brown. The Women's Team Race Invitational will be held at home.

The Wood Trophy Team Race is set to begin March 11 on the Charles River. The Crimson also has the Team Race Invitational and Charleston Spring Intersectional on tap for the third weekend of competition. The regattas will be hosted by MIT and College of Charleston, respectively.

Harvard has four events planned for the last weekend of March. Beginning March 25, the Crimson embarks to compete for the Duplin Women's Team Trophy at Tufts, NEISA/MAISA Team Race at BC and the Central Series II at BU. Harvard is set to compete in the Team Race Invitational March 26 at BU.

The team begins the second half of the spring with a trio of regattas April 1 at MIT, BU and at home, before continuing with three races on the weekend of April 8 taking place at Tufts, US Coast Guard Academy and Bowdoin.

The Crimson will look to win the Thompson Trophy at USCGA, the Presidents Trophy at BU, the Owen Trophy at Yale and the Oberg Trophy at MIT the weekend of April 15. 

Harvard will compete at the Reed Trophy for New England Women's Championship at Brown April 22-23. The Crimson will also host the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup with MIT the same weekend. Additionally, Harvard will compete for the Admirals Cup at US Merchant Marines Academy in Kings Point, as well as the Morris Trophy at BU. Rounding out April, Harvard looks to attain the New England Championship title  April 29.

The last two weekends of competition feature the Women's ICSA National Championships and the ICSA Team Race National Championships in Charleston, South Carolina. The competitions are set for May 23-26 and May 27-30, respectively.  Harvard closes out the spring semester at the ISCA Coed National Championships in Charleston May 30-June 2.

Harvard sailing placed 12th at the New England Dinghy Championships in 2016. The Crimson sent a group of women to the ICSA Sperry Women's Western Semifinal for the first time since 2012, placing 18th out of 36 teams.
