Four Regattas in Store for Sailing

The Harvard sailing team is set to compete at the Nevins Trophy, Stu Nelson Trophy, Hatch Brown Trophy and the Central Series (Athletic Communications).


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
The Harvard sailing team is set to compete at the Nevins Trophy, Stu Nelson Trophy, Hatch Brown Trophy and the Central Series in the second weekend of competition.


Forecast

On Saturday, sailors will see winds from the Southeast in Boston, New London and Kings Point at 5-10 knots with waves of 1-2 feet. All three locations do not show a chance of rain. On Sunday, there is a chance of showers with winds stemming from the Southwest at 5-10 knots and seas at 1-2 feet.

About the Nevins Trophy

The Nevins Trophy will be hosted by U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York Sept. 17-18. The Crimson will face sailors from 20 colleges and universities. The coed squad placed fifth at last year's competition, winning 11 of the 18 races.

About the Stu Nelson Trophy

The women's regatta will be hosted by Connecticut College Sept. 17-18. In last year's race, the women's team earned four top-5 finishes, placing 10th overall with 248 points.

About the Hatch Brown Trophy

The Hatch Brown Trophy will be hosted by MIT Sept. 17-18. The Crimson will compete against 20 challengers in fireflies.  In last year's competition, wild winds and big waves presented the sailors with challenges on the course. Harvard earned eight top-5 finishes in the 14 race regatta, placing ninth overall.

About the Central Series
Boston College will be hosting the first Central Series of the season Sept. 17-18. Harvard dominated the competition in last year's regatta, earning first place with 91 points.

Practice Makes Perfect

Nick Sertl, Taylor Ladd, Dylan Ferrell and Kevin Coakley all made an appearance for Harvard at the 74th Pine Trophy Sept. 10-11. With their second-place finish, the four sailors will qualify for the New England Singlehanded Championships Sept. 24-25.  


Fresh Faced

The Crimson earned a first-place finish at last weekend's Lark Invitational. Freshman skipper Jessica Williams paired with sophomore Divya Arya to finish third overall and first in the B-Division.

On the Docket

The Harvard sailing team will be traveling to Connecticut College to compete in the New England Singlehanded Championships Sept. 24-25 along with the Hood Trophy at Tufts and the Amanda Trophy at Roger Williams.
