Sailing Glides into 2016 with 26 Regattas Scheduled

The Crimson qualified for three national championships during the fall (Athletic Communications).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard sailing head coach Michael O'Connor has released the team's 2016 spring schedule which includes three home regattas among the 26-competition calendar.

The Crimson will open the spring slate competing at Brown for the Sharpe Trophy Team Race March 5-6. Harvard will then host the Wood Trophy Team Race March 12-13, while also traveling to St. Mary's and Tufts.

The following weekend the Crimson will compete in another trio of regattas including the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College, the Geiger Trophy Team Race hosted by MIT, and the Vietor Trophy hosted by Sacred Heart and Fairfield.

From March 26-27, Harvard will compete in Tufts' Friis Trophy Team Race and the NEISA/MAISA Team Race hosted by Boston College. Vessels will also sail in the BU Team Race Invitational hosted by Boston University on March 27.

Harvard hosts the Central Series 3, its second home regatta of the spring, April 2-3 while also sailing in the Marchiando Team Race (MIT), Camel Team Race (Connecticut College) and BU Trophy (Boston University).

A week later, the Crimson travels to New London, Connecticut for the New England Team Race Championship hosted by Coast Guard. The weekend will also include the Mystic Lake Team Race hosted by Tufts.

The weekend of April 16-17 is one of Harvard's busier weekends with five regattas in line. Sailors will compete for the Presidents' Trophy (Boston University), Thompson Trophy (Coast Guard and Connecticut College), Owen and Mosbacher/Kapp Trophies (Cornell), Oberg Trophy (MIT), and Savin Hill Central Series (Boston College).

Another five-regatta weekend April 23-24 sends the Crimson to contend the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup (Harvard/MIT), the New England Women's Championship/Reed Trophy (Yale), the Admiral's Cup (USMMA), the Morris Trophy (Boston University) and the Priddy Trophy (Sacred Heart).

The spring schedule wraps up with four championships on the line.

The New England Championship, hosted by Dartmouth, will take place from April 30-May 1. The San Diego Yacht Club will be the location of the ICSA National Women's Championship from May 24-27, the ICSA National Team Race Championship from May 28-30 and the ICSA National Championship from May 31-June 3.
