Perdomo records his second Sailor of the Week honor (Rob Migliaccio).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Juan Carlos Perdomo has been named the NEISA Coed Sailor of the Week after winning the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Championship at New Haven, Connecticut from Sept. 26-27.
With 10 top-five finishes in the 14-race regatta, Perdomo topped the 27 other sailors while keeping a 10-point distance between himself and the runner-up. The junior took over the lead early in the event, winning race four before going on to finish in the top-five in eight of the remaining 10 races.
By capturing the Singlehanded Championship, Perdomo has qualified for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded National Championship, which will be hosted by Old Dominion November 6-8. Perdomo also competed at the event in 2013 and finished as the runner-up. He is the first member of the Crimson to win the NEISA Singlehanded Championship since Kyle Kovacs '08 in 2008.
Michael Drumm '15 was the last member of the Crimson to be named NEISA Coed Sailor of the Week, taking home the honor on April 8, 2015 after guiding Harvard to a second-place finish at the Marchiando Trophy Team Race at MIT. This is the second time Perdomo has been named NEISA Coed Sailor of the Week. He was previously honored as a freshmen on Nov. 13, 2013 after his runner-up performance at the 2013 NEISA Singlehanded Championship.
