CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-The Harvard sailing team opened the 2010 spring season with an 11-7 record and third-place finish in the Sharpe Trophy Team Race Saturday at MIT.
The Crimson posted a 9-6 record in three round robins against the rest of the six-team field. That record matched Tufts and Brown for the best round-robin mark, but the Jumbos and Bears both won two of their three matchups with the Crimson and advanced to the championship round.
Harvard took two of its three races against Boston College in its final round to total an 11-7 mark. Only Tufts (11-6), which swept its final series against Brown, had a better overall record on the day.
Eight athletes contributed to Harvard's performance in the following pairs: Tedd Himler and Quincy Bock, Alan Palmer and Alma Lafler, John Stokes and Michelle Konstadt and Brendan Kopp and Meghan Wareham. Himler, Palmer and Stokes skippered the Crimson boats in the final round against BC.
