PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 12 Harvard men's water polo team handed loses to both Navy and Fordham on the final day of play at the Princeton Invite. The Crimson defeated Navy 17-10 in the morning and carried on that success in the afternoon, besting Fordham 11-8.
It was a team effort in the matchup against Navy, as everyone on the roster saw action in the pool. After being tied in the first half, the Crimson went on to outscore the Midshipmen 11-4 in the final two quarters. Junior Dennis Blyashov and sophomore Alex Tsotadze came up big for Harvard, scoring four goals each. Sophomore Michael Sonsini once again tied a career high by tallying two goals and seniors Charlie Owens and Bennie Seybold also got their names on the score sheet twice in the match. Noah Hodge was sound in net, totaling eight saves and two assists on the match.
Pacing the goal scoring for the Crimson in the afternoon was junior Jackson Enright who, for the second time this weekend, completed a hat-trick. Seybold drew two penalties and Blyashov converted on both penalty shots for his two scores in the contest. Additionally, Owens and senior Austin Sechrest contributed two goals to the win. Hodge held Fordham to only eight goals, and tallied a total of 14 saves, while providing two assists.
- Blyashov lead the Crimson with six goals on the day.
- Hodge had a combined 22 saves between both matches.
- The Crimson is still undefeated on the season with a record of 5-0.
The Crimson will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Invite, Sept. 21-22. There, the team will see action against No. 15 George Washington, John Hopkins, Mercyhurst and Salem International.
