CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second time this season, the Harvard men's water polo team swept the NEWPC Weekly Awards with Dennis Blyashov earning Player of the Week, Anthony Ridgley earning Defensive Player and Jackson Enright earning Rookie of the Week honors. Previously, the Crimson swept all awards during the week of October 16.
Freshman Dennis Blyashov netted five goals in the Crimson's victory over No. 17 George Washington last Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Blyashov's fifth goal came in the overtime period, to put the Crimson up, 14-13. Harvard defeated George Washington, 15-13 in overtime to move on to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Junior goalkeeper Anthony Ridgley made 13 saves, three assists and three steals in Harvard's 15-13 OT victory over George Washington in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Jackson Enright netted two goals against George Washington in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, including the game-tying 13th point off a steal with 43 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Enright's goal forced overtime in which Harvard went on to win, 15-13. Enright also had two assists, one steal and one block.
Harvard travels to USC this Thursday to face the Trojans in a 7 p.m. PST / 10 p.m. EST showdown in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The game will air on the USC Live Stream.
