CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman Ben Zepfel was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Division Rookie of the Week for the week of Sept. 17 for his efforts at the North-South Challenge at Blodgett Pool this past weekend.
In the first home matches of his collegiate career, Zepfel came up big for the Crimson as he tallied 11 goals and four steals in three games at the two-day event.
The California native recorded two goals and two steals in a loss, 11-3, to Bucknell before scoring five goals and making one steal in a 16-9 win over Mercyhurst Saturday. On Sunday, Zepfel contributed four more goals and a steal in a back-and-forth win over George Washington, 15-13.
It is the second time in three weeks that a Harvard player has been honored by the CWPA. Noah Harrison was also named Rookie of the Week for the week of Sept. 3.
Harvard will be back in action Friday night when it opens up conference play at MIT at 8 p.m.
