CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's water polo team has released its schedule for the 2012 season. The Crimson will host five games, including the North-South Challenge, and travel to California as the team looks to reach the CWPA Eastern Championships for the second straight year.
Harvard gets the season started by competing in tournaments the first three weekends of September. The Crimson will kick off the 2012 campaign just down the road at the Zesiger Center with a tripleheader against Diablo Valley College, MIT and Yale's club team Sept. 1 in the Labor Day Invite. The Crimson will then head to the Garden State for four games at the Princeton Invitational against the Tigers, Cal Lutheran, Cal-Berkeley and Johns Hopkins Sept. 7-9 before hosting the North-South Challenge Sept. 15-16.
After making another trip to MIT (Sept. 21), the Crimson will entertain Fordham and Iona at Blodgett Pool on Sept. 22, then travel to Connecticut College on Sept. 23.
The Crimson will jump back into tournament play the following two weekends with a trip to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bison Invitational Sept. 29-30 and California for the Claremont Convergence Oct. 5-6. Harvard will also play a single game against UC Santa Barbara Oct. 7 before leaving the Golden State.
Upon returning to the East Coast, the Crimson wrap up its home schedule against Brown on Oct. 11 and conclude the regular season at St. Francis on Oct. 20.
The postseason will see Harvard return to the home sites of several Ivy League foes. The Ivy Championships are at Yale (Oct. 27-28), the Northern Championships are at Brown (Nov. 3-4) and the Eastern Championships are at Princeton (Nov. 16-18).
Harvard is coming off a 10-20 season in 2011 that saw the team finish seventh at the CWPA Eastern Championships.
