The Department of Harvard Athletics has released the men’s water polo schedule for the 2010 season. The Crimson will host four matches and the ECAC Championships at Blodgett Pool and participate in three tournaments as well as the Ivy League and Northern Division Championships on the road with the goal of making the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championships in November.

The 31st season of varsity water polo begins Sept. 4 at the MIT Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held across the river at Zesiger Center Pool. The following weekend, Harvard will compete at the Princeton Invitational before hosting the ECAC Championships Sept. 18-19.

Harvard jumps into conference play the last Saturday in September, hosting Fordham and Iona in Northern Division action and then welcoming MIT Oct. 2.  The Crimson travels to the Golden State for the Claremont Convergence Oct. 9-10 before returning back to the east coast for matches against Brown (Oct. 14), Connecticut College (Oct. 16), St. Francis (N.Y.) (Oct. 17), Queens (Oct. 17) and MIT (Oct. 22).

The Crimson will make a second trip to the Garden State to compete in the Ivy League Championships Oct. 30-31 at Princeton. The event will feature club and varsity teams from the Ancient Eight. The next weekend, Harvard stays close to home, making the trip to MIT for the CWPA Northern Division Championships. The Crimson will look to advance to the CWPA Eastern Championships for the first time since 2007.

Rising-junior Luka Babic and rising-senior Bret Voith will serve as team captains in 2010.
