Men’s Volleyball Victorious in Home Opener Against St. Francis Brooklyn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its first home match of the 2020 season, the Harvard men's volleyball team (5-2, 1-0 EIVA) defeated St. Francis Brooklyn (2-3) in four sets. In the matchup between the two teams, the Crimson earned the victory with set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-14.

Six members of the Crimson earned an above .300 hitting percentage, including Ryan Hong, who had four kills on five attacks for a team-high .800 clip. Fellow sophomore Cambell Schoenfeld once again led Harvard in kills with 16, followed closely by Eric Li who totaled 15.

At the service line, Li led the Crimson in aces with two straight in the first set. Junior Adam Gordon, senior captain Matthew Ctvrtlik and Schoenfeld each recorded one ace.

Defensively, Schoenfeld totaled a team-high 12 digs, while Ctvrtlik tallied 11. Schoenfeld also recorded two block assists and three members of the Crimson each had one.

Harvard Highlights

  • Schoenfeld only posted two errors in 36 total attacks.
  • This marks the fourth time this season that Li has recorded at least two aces.
  • Ctvrtlik led the team in assists with 49.
  • Harvard recorded a team hitting percentage of .441, its highest total of the season.

The Crimson will continue play at home Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. against Barton and Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. against Mount Olive. Both matches will be played at the Malkin Athletic Center and be broadcast on ESPN+.
