SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Harvard men's volleyball dropped its first match of the season, falling to No. 10 UC Santa Barbara in the Asics Invitational on Thursday, Jan. 3. The loss came by set scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25 and 15-7.
Harvard was led by junior Matthew Ctvrtlik, who handed out 32 assists throughout the five sets. First-year Campbell Schoenfeld led the team with a .294 hitting percentage while hammering home eight kills. Sophomore Griffin Schmit led the offense with 13 kills and was closely followed by junior Erik Johnsson who had nine. Harvard connected on 40 kills throughout the five sets.
Schmit also helped lead the defense, totaling seven digs and blocking five UCSB attacks while first-year libero Jason Shen led Harvard with nine digs during the match. Senior Trevor Dow was a part of three blocks while Schoenfeld assisted on two blocks as well.

- Ctvrtlik's assist total tonight was his highest since Feb 17, 2017, on the road at then No. 13 Penn State.
