CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's volleyball begins its EIVA title defense on the west coast, competing in the Asics Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif. January 3-5. The team will compete against three ranked opponents, including defending national champion No. 1 Long Beach State.
The Crimson will compete in the invitational against No. 10 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. EST, No. 11 CSUN on Friday, Jan. 4 at 11 p.m. EST, and close out the invitational vs. No. 1 Long Beach St. at 8:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 5.
The matches will not be streamed.
What to Know
-The Crimson is coming off an impressive 2018 campaign, winning its first EIVA Championship title in program history and making its first-ever NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament appearance.
-Junior Matthew Ctvrtlik earned All-EIVA second team honors last season, recording five double-doubles and was the only player in 2018 to record a triple-double.
-Ctvrtlik and senior Trevor Dow were named captains for the 2019 season.
At the Helm
Head coach Brian Baise enters his 11th season at the helm of the Harvard men's volleyball program this weekend. Baise owns a 124-109 record on the sidelines, including a 100-72 record over the past seven seasons. Last year, he led the Crimson to its first-ever EIVA Tournament championship and NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament appearance.
The Crimson welcomes Laval to Cambridge for a pair of matches on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and Thursday, Jan. 10 with both matches beginning at 7 p.m. They will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
