CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's volleyball team celebrated the Class of 2018 with a 3-0 sweep over NJIT today, April 7, at the Malkin Athletic Center in its final regular season home match. The Crimson picked up its sixth-straight win and fifth three-set victory of the season by set scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-15 to improve to 10-2 in conference play and 11-11 overall, while the Highlanders dropped to 4-8 in the EIVA.
Harvard posted its highest team attack percentage of the season, outhitting NJIT .500 to .274. Brad Gretsch knocked down double-digit kills for the 11th time this season, registering 10 for a .571 hitting percentage. The Crimson spread the scoring around as setters Marko Kostich and Matthew Ctvrtlik posted seven and six kills, respectively, and zero errors each. Kostich led the offense with a season-high .778 hitting percentage, while also dishing out a team-best 19 assists. Senior co-captain Riley Moore continued to contribute to the offense, tying his career-high three service aces and hitting .429 on the night.
The Crimson defense posted a solid effort in the back row as four players tallied four or more digs. Kostich and Ctvrtlik led the way with six apiece, while Gretsch added five and Jack Connolly contributed four. Harvard and NJIT were nearly matched on the scoresheet in blocks as Moore held the Highlanders at the net with a team-best three.
The Crimson will play its final regular season conference matches at George Mason next weekend, April 14-15. Matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
