CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— Sophomore DJ White will play for Team USA at the 2012 NORCECA Men’s Junior (U-21) Continental Championship, which begins today in Colorodo Springs, Colo.
White was one of 18 men’s college volleyball players selected to the training team after participating in the nationwide USA Volleyball High Performance tryouts. National team head coach Peter Hanson selected 12 players at the conclusion of a three-week training camp.
"We have an exceptional group of 12 athletes and volleyball players.” Hanson said. “During the training block, this group of guys continually rose to the top."
White contributed to Harvard’s most successful season in program history in 2012. He helped the Crimson finish second in the EIVA and earn a berth in the conference tournment for the first time since 2009. Harvard also achieved its first-ever ranking in the AVCA national poll. White started all 24 matches his freshman year and was named to the All-EIVA first team. He averaged 2.76 kills per set and hit .319 during his freshman season.
The top three teams at the NORCECA Championship, which runs through Sept. 1, will qualify for the 2013 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Junior World Championship.
