NAPA VALLEY, Calif. – The Harvard men's tennis team kicked off its fall season with a strong showing at the Napa Valley Classic, Sept. 13-15. The Crimson faced individual competitors from California, Baylor, Michigan, Pacific and the USTA Junior National Team during the three days of singles and doubles play.

"There is nothing like getting the chance to compete against the top teams in the country early in the season. It gives us a lot valuable information about what we need to work on and what holds up under pressure. The Napa event is one of the crown jewels of the fall season and we are so grateful to everyone who had a hand in hosting us over the amazing weekend," said the Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis Andrew Rueb.

First-years Henry von der Schulenburg and Alan Yim both picked up wins in their first matches in the Crimson uniform. Von der Schulenburg defeated Mattias Siimar of Michigan in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) and Yim took down Mert Zincirli of Cal also in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). On day two, the Crimson captured five out of six singles victories with wins from juniors Robert Wrzesinski and Constantin Zoske, sophomore Harris Walker and first-years Ronan Jachuck and Yim.

Closing out the tournament for Harvard was first-year Jachuck who advanced to face Cal's Yuta Kikuchi, former PAC 10 Rookie of the Year, in the Wild Card Shootout Finals. To qualify for the shootout, Jachuck defeated Andrew Fenty of Michigain straight sets (6-2,6-4). Fenty is the reigning ITA and Big Ten Rookie of the Year.

"It was great to see all the first-years competing side by side – getting their first action in the Crimson uniform", commented Coach Rueb. "Alan, Henry and Ronan all competed with great heart and showed a poise beyond their years."
