No. 38 Men’s Tennis Secures 4-3 Comeback Victory Over Cornell

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The No. 38 Harvard men's tennis team handed Cornell its first Ivy League loss of the season today with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory at the Murr Center. With today's win, the Crimson extends its winning streak to eight matches and remains undefeated in Ivy play, improving to an 18-5 (5-0 Ivy) record.

Harvard opened the match strong, taking the doubles point with back-to-back wins on courts three and one. Harris Walker and Steven Sun picked up the first point of the day for the Crimson, cruising past the Big Red's No. 3 doubles pair, 6-1. The duo of Brian Shi and Robert Wrzesinski then clinched the doubles point on court one with a 6-4 win over Cornell's top pair.

Making a comeback, the Big Red picked up the intensity, securing victories on courts six, one and five to give Cornell the 3-1 advantage. The Crimson responded with an all-out comeback effort, kicked off by first-year Walker's three-set win on court four. Senior co-captain Andy Zhou followed shortly after with a three-set decision of his own to even the match at 3-3 in the second position. With the match on the line, Shi secured his second match-clinching point of the year, taking down Cornell's No. 3 to knock down the Big Red.

-With today's win, Harvard remains at the top of the Ivy League standings alongside No. 16 Columbia, with both teams currently boasting a 5-0 record in conference action.
-First-year Brian Shi picked up his second match-clinching point of the season today, taking down Cornell, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the No. 3 position.
-Harvard improves to a 62-15 all-time record in the series against the Big Red.  
-The Crimson is currently on a league-best eight-match winning streak.
