CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Picking up its seventh consecutive victory, the No. 37 Harvard men's tennis team blanked Brown this afternoon, 4-0, at the Beren Tennis Center. With today's win over the Bears, the Crimson remains untouched in Ivy action, improving to 17-5 (4-0 Ivy) so far this spring.
Harvard opened up its home bout strong, picking up the doubles point with wins on court three and two. Harris Walker and Steven Sun kicked it off for the Crimson with a 6-4 win over Brown's No. 3 pair, before Robert Wrzesinski and Brian Shi gave Harvard the 1-0 lead off a 6-4 win in the second slot.
Moving into singles, first-year Walker doubled the Crimson's lead, coasting past the Bears 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth position. Senior co-captain Andy Zhou broke serve to give Harvard its third point of the day, taking down Brown on court two, 6-2, 6-2, to put the Crimson within match point.
With the final four matches coming down to a third set, sophomore Lane Leschly ultimately clinched the match for the Crimson off a three-set thriller. After dropping the first set, 4-6, Leschly rallied back to win consecutive 6-2 sets and keep the Crimson in the win column.
-First-year Harris Walker continues to find success in singles, improving to a team high 17-4 record this spring.
-The Crimson remains untouched against Ivy opponents, with wins now against Brown, Yale, Princeton and Penn.
-In the all-time series, Harvard improves to an 83-7 margin over the Bears.
-The Crimson is now on a seven-match winning streak.
Harvard prepares for its final pair of home matches next weekend, when it hosts Cornell on April 20 and No. 16 Columbia on April 21. Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
