NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Remaining undefeated in Ivy League play, the No. 37 Harvard men's tennis team took down Yale this afternoon, 6-1. With today's victory over its Ancient Eight rival, the Crimson improves to 16-5 (3-0) on the season and extends its winning streak to six matches.
"It is always a fun rivalry match playing against Yale," said the Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis Andrew Rueb. "It brings out the best of both teams. I'm happy with how we responded to the challenge today."
Opening action with doubles, Harris Walker and Christopher Morrow picked up a quick victory on court three to give the Crimson the early lead. Breaking down Harvard's advantage, Yale rallied back to earn a win in the first spot, locking the teams at 1-1. The duo of Robert Wrzesinski and Brian Shi broke serve to ultimately clinch the doubles point for the Crimson off a 7-5 margin in the second position.
Harvard continued to find success moving into singles, with Walker striking first with a 6-3, 6-2 decision on court four. Shortly after, senior co-captain Andy Zhou cruised past the Bulldogs, 6-2, 6-3, in the second slot to put Harvard within one of clinching the match, before Wrzesinski sealed the Crimson's victory over Yale with a 6-4, 7-5 result at the top of the order.
-First-year Harris Walker leads the Crimson in singles this spring, improving 16-4 in dual play.
-With today's win, Harvard moves to 73-26 in the all-time series over Yale.
-Through the start of Ivy action, the Crimson remains untouched, finding wins over Penn, Princeton and Yale to open the conference schedule.
-The Crimson is now on a six-match winning streak following today's result.
The Crimson returns to Cambridge to host Brown on Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m. Match location will be determined on Sunday pending weather conditions.
