Men's Tennis Pulls Out 4-3 Win at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Harvard men's tennis team (17-9, 5-1 Ivy League) moved one step closer to a share of its 29th Ivy League regular season title with a dramatic 4-3 dual match win at Princeton (12-12, 2-3 Ivy League) at Jadwin Gym on Saturday afternoon.

"It was a tough match from start to finish,' said associate head coach Andrew Rueb. "We have played a string of 4-3 matches against the Tigers and today was no different."

Harvard clinched a hard fought doubles point after splitting at No. 1 and No. 2. The Crimson top pair, No. 66 Kenny Tao and Brian Yeung, moved to 16-6 on the season with a 6-4 win over Thomas Colautti and Alexander Day to even the doubles score at 1-1. It came down to the No. 3 pair of Christopher Morrow and Logan Weber, and the duo picked up their team best 18th doubles win of the spring season (18-5) with a 7-5 win over Jonathan Carcione and Luke Gamble.

In singles play, Jean Thirouin and Andy Zhou picked up key wins in the No. 3 and No. 5 singles spots. Thirouin won 6-4, 6-4 against Kial Kaiser to move to 15-4 on the season, while Zhou earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jimmy Wasserman.

With the match square at 3-3, senior Brian Yeung pulled out a three set win over Luke Gamble, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, to clinch the dual match win for Harvard.

"Our doubles play was strong and gave us a needed edge," Rueb said. "The singles came down to some clutch performances. Senior Brian Yeung was the hero – winning the clincher. He attacked the net relentlessly and volleyed his way to the win."

With both Cornell and Columbia winning their dual matches on Saturday, Harvard enters the final day of the regular season in a three-way tie for first place with both programs. Harvard will take on Penn tomorrow at 1 p.m.
