CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Knotted at 3-3, freshman Kenny Tao won at the No. 6 position to push No. 36 Harvard men's tennis past Cornell, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Murr Tennis Center. The Crimson (15-5, 1-0) opened Ivy League play with a win and will face No. 28 Columbia tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Harvard came back from down 3-2 to win two-straight matches and take the victory. Senior captain Denis Nguyen evened the tally with a 7-6 (1), 6-3 win over Sam Fleck. Tao finished the Big Red with a comeback 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Alex Sidney.
After earning the doubles point with wins from the No. 1 (6-4) and No. 2 (6-4) duos, Cornell earned points at the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 positions. Junior Nicky Hu earned the Crimson's second point with a 6-4, 7-5 sweep of Bernardo Casares-Rosa.
Harvard will be back at the Murr Tennis Center to challenge No. 28 Columbia at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
