TULSA, Okla. – Senior Denis Nguyen won two matches to advance to the round of 16 in a competitive field at the ITA All-American Championships over the weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Case Tennis Center. The week-long tournament brings together the top-64 college tennis players in the country.
Nguyen started the weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of North Carolina's Jack Murray. The Anaheim, California native went on to win a grueling match with Or Ram-Harel of Tulsa, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.
"It wsa a great three days of tennis for Denis," said associate head coach Andrew Rueb. "There is nothing like cutting your teeth against the toughest competition to learn more about your game. Making it to the final 16 is a great accomplishment. Yannick Hanfmann from USC is already an ATP-level player and it was a great experience getting to compete against the best."
Up against No. 2 Yannick Hanfmann from the University of Southern California, Nguyen's run was halted (6-0, 6-3) in the round of 16.
The Crimson will take a weekend off from competition before heading to Flushing Meadows, New York to compete in the ITA Regionals.
