Chaudhuri and Steer claimed the B doubles bracket, and Chaudhuri also won the Flight 'A' singles championship during the three-day Harvard Halloween Classic at the Murr Center (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shaun Chaudhuri won the 'A' flight singles bracket and teamed up with Henry Steer en route to an 8-5 victory against Army's Peter Sinko and Henry Jang-Milsten in the 'B' flight doubles finals on day three of the Harvard Halloween Classic at the Murr Center. Kelvin Lam and Denis Nguyen claimed the 'A' flight doubles crown with a win against Brown duo Lucas da Silveria and Justin To.
During the three-day tournament, Chaudhuri bested his teammate and the 2011 Harvard Halloween Invite champion, Alex Steinroeder, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals to set up a showdown with fellow-Crimson, Lam, in the final round. The sophomore took the match in straight sets to secure the championship.
Lam defeated senior captain Andy Nguyen in a tightly contested semifinal match. The rookie dropped the first set before taking the second frame, 7-6 (9-7) on a tiebreaker and the third, 6-2, to advance. He previously beat Amherst's Ben Fife and Lucas da Silveria of Brown.
Steinroeder defeated Ivy League-foe, Brown's Ivan Karvtchenko, Friday and Army junior Asika Isoh Saturday.
Nguyen, who had a first-round bye, edged Mark Kahan of Amherst in the quarterfinals.
Both Steer and Seaver claimed opening-round victories in the 'B' flight bracket. Steer defeated Nik Telkedzhiev of Tufts, 6-2, 6-3, while Seaver swept third-seeded Amherst rookie, Aaron Revzin, 6-3, 6-3.
The Crimson concludes its fall slate Nov. 9-11 at the Tribe Invite.
