Harvard Men’s Tennis Defeats Virginia Tech and Boston University

Harvard men's tennis went 2-0 on Saturday afternoon defeating Virginia Tech 4-3, and cross-town foe Boston University 6-1, at the Murr Center Tennis Courts. The Crimson went a perfect 6-0 in combined in doubles play between the two matches which helped Harvard improve to 7-1 on the season.

First on tap for Harvard was Virginia Tech. The Crimson went 3-0 in doubles, as Casey MacMaster and Alistair Felton defeated Luka Somen and Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci 8-5. Andy and Denis Nguyen defeated Lucas Oliveira and Hunter Koontz 8-5 and Christo Schultz and Henry Steer defeated its foe, 8-7 (10-8).

In singles action Schultz and Shaun Chaudhuri recorded wins and it came down to the last match between Alex Steinroeder and Patrick Daciek. Steinroeder lost the first set, 3-6, but came back and took the second, 6-4. In the third set Steinroeder saved match-point before finally closing out the Hokie senior, 7-5 and clinching the match for the Crimson 4-3.

In the second match of the evening Harvard once again took the doubles point as the No.1 doubles team of Schultz and Steer defeated Josh Friedman and Michael Koppelman, 8-5, while MacMaster and Chaudhuri defeated Jesse Frieder and Emilio Teran, 8-0. In the final doubles competition Felton and Brendan Seaver defeated Alex Green and Alex Hallenbeck, 8-6.

The domination continued for Harvard in singles play as Chaudhuri, Denis Nugyen, Felton, Brandon Parker and Seaver all recorded singles victories.

The win over Virginia Tech means that Harvard has defeated a team from both the SEC and ACC. This was the first time since 2008 that Harvard had played teams from both conferences in the same season.

Harvard will be back in action on Feb. 18-20 when it heads to Hanover, N.H. to compete in the ECAC team championship. Full results can be found below:
