CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard men's tennis team claimed its second-consecutive Ivy League victory, downing Penn 7-0. The Crimson improves to 11-10 on the season and 2-2 in the Ancient Eight. The Quakers dip to 11-8 on the year and 1-4 in the conference.
Harvard jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by taking two of the three doubles matches. Aba Omodele-Lucien and Christo Schultz earned an 8-6 victory at the top slot. Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen picked up a 9-7 win at the No. 2 position.
The Crimson swept the six singles matches to complete the shutout. Alexei Chijoff-Evans cruised to victory at the top spot, 6-2, 6-3. Joshua Tchan earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 2 slot. Tchan won the first set 6-1 but dropped the second set 6-4. In the third set super-tiebreaker, Tchan fought off four consecutive match points to bring the score to 9-9. The players traded points but Tchan prevailed for the win. At the No. 3 singles match, Omodele-Lucien also earned a win in three sets. The junior won the first set 7-6, dropped the second set 6-2 and won the super-tiebreaker 10-6.
Nguyen bounced back from losing the first set 6-3 to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Schultz rolled to a win in straight sets at the fifth singles position. Felton picked up singles win at the No. 6 spot to complete the sweep. The sophomore won the first set 6-3, dropped the second set 6-4 and glided to victory by taking the third, 6-2.
Harvard hits the courts April 16 to face Brown. The Crimson will look to claim its third straight Ivy League victory.
