Men’s Swimming and Diving Hauls in All-Ivy Honors; Tyrrell Named Coach of the Year

PRINCETON. N.J. – Coming off winning the 2017 Men's Swimming and Diving Ivy League Championship, Harvard was recognized Thursday with 17 individual All-Ivy League honors, as well as five first team relay awards. Kevin Tyrrell, The Ulen-Brooks Endowed Head Coach for Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving, was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year.

Tyrrell led Harvard to its 24th Ivy championship in program history and second in his four-year tenure as head coach. Harvard finished a perfect 10-0 in the dual meet season.

Freshman Dean Farris and senior Jack Manchester were also honored with cumulative awards. Farris, this year's high-point swimmer with 96 points, received the Phil Moriarty Award, while Manchester earned the Harold S. Ulen Award as the career high-point swimmer with 296 points.

Farris proved to be a dominant presence at the championship meet last week at Blodgett Pool, winning three individual events (100 free, 200 free and 100 back), as well as swimming on four of Harvard's victorious relay squads to earn seven first team honors.

Senior Max Yakubovich also shined in his final Ivy championship meet, earning six first team honors. Yakubovich swept the 100 and 200 butterfly events, in addition to swimming on four relay teams.

Manchester won the 200 backstroke and competed on three winning relay squads to collect four first team awards. He also earned second team recognition in the 100 back.

Sophomore Brennan Novak stood out in the distance free events, winning the 500 free and finishing as the runner-up in the 1,000 and 1,650. He earned first team honors with the 800 free relay team as well.

Junior Shane McNamara earned two first team honors with the 200 and 400 medley teams, while receiving second team accolades individually in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Classmates Steven Tan and Ed Kim each garnered first team honors on a pair of relay squads, while also earning one second team honor. Tan took the runner-up spot in the 500 free, while Kim finished second in the 100 free.

Freshman Zach Snyder and senior Aly Abdel Khalik picked up first team honors on the 800 free relay team. Junior Bobby Ross earned second team recognition in the one- and three-meter diving competitions. Sophomore Logan Houck was all-conference second team in the 500 free.
