LONG BEACH, Calif. - Alex Meyer '10 earned a place at the Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Open Water Swimming Championships with a fourth-place finish at the Open Water 10K National Championships, Friday in Long Beach, Calif.
Meyer made his move just past the halfway point of the race, moving up to the front of the pack and maintaining a fourth-place position despite a late charge by the rest of the field. Meyer finished with a time of 1:57:16.010, less than two seconds off the winning time and three seconds clear of the fifth-place finisher. For finishing in the top four, Meyer earned a trip to the Pan Pacific event, which will take place August 22 in Irvine, Calif.
Meyer's Harvard teammate Blake Lewkowitz also competed in the event, placing 32nd in the 44-man field with a final time of 2:06:49.188.
