The Particulars

The Harvard men’s and women’s diving teams will send representatives to the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, hosted by Rutgers University March 12-14.

The Participants
Harvard will send a total of four divers to the meet. Freshman Michael Stanton, who captured the one and three-meter diving titles at the Ivy Championships and earned Diver of the Meet accolades, will be the lone representative for the men’s team in New Jersey. Junior Jenny Reese, sophomore Leslie Rea and freshman Brittany Powell will represent the women’s diving squad. Reese fronted a strong Crimson effort at the Ivy Championships, taking third in the one meter event and fourth in the three meter while Rea was close behind with fourth and fifth-place results in the two competitions. Powell finished eighth in the three-meter event and 14th in the one meter competition.

The Meet
The competition will take place in Sonny Werblin Recreation Center in Piscataway, N.J., beginning with the men’s three meter and women’s one meter preliminaries on Friday afternoon. Eighty-nine divers from 24 schools are scheduled to participate in the three-day meet.

Harvard History
The Crimson has seen a number of strong performances at the NCAA Zone A Diving competition. Samantha Papadakis ’08 captured the one meter title in 2006 to advance on to the NCAA Championships. Pamela Stone became Harvard’s first female diving national champion in 1980 after Nancy Sato received All-America honors in 1975. The last men’s diver to earn All-America status was Dan Watson in 1983 on both the one and three meter boards.

On The Horizon
The NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 18-20 at Purdue University while the Men’s Championships will take place March 25-27 at Ohio State University.
