Harvard Announces Men's Swimming and Diving Class of 2013

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard men's swimming and diving team, which finished the 2008-09 season ranked 20th in the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America national poll, will welcome an incoming class of seven student-athletes, head coach Tim Murphy announced today.

The class includes six swimmers and one diver in Michael Stanton (Potomac, Md.). Brendan McIntee (Plano, Texas) and Greg Pelton (Towson, Md.) will compete in the freestyle and backstroke events, while Ryan Cutter (Stamford, Conn.) and Greg Roop (Chattanooga, Tenn.) will add to the butterfly and freestyle corps. Owen Wurzbacher (Shoreline, Wash.) will swim the individual medley and breaststroke events, while Matthew Kaminske (Venice, Fla.) is a distance freestyle specialist.

The Crimson returns 33 members from last year's squad which finished 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League. The team also earned a second-place finish at the Ivy League and ECAC Championships.

Ryan Cutter, Butterfly/Freestyle, Stamford, Conn./Westhill

Captained swimming and diving team at Westhill High in 2008-09 ... Three-time all-state selection ... Named All-Fairfield Country Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) three times ... Two-time All-American in 100 butterfly and earned the honor in 200 freestyle in 2008-09 ... Went undefeated as a senior ... Holds the FCIAC record in 200 freestyle and the Westhill school record in 200 and 500 freestyle ... Academic All-American in 2008-09.

Matthew Kaminske, Distance Freestyle, Venice, Fla./Pine View School

Four-time letterwinner at Pine View School ... Captained squad during senior year ... Recipient of Olympic Spirit Award in 2008 ... Member of Florida Zone All-Star team in 2007-08 ... Four-time all-area selection ... Named to United States National Team in 2008-09 ... Member of Jr. Pan Pacific Games team in 2009 ... National Honor Society ... Four-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American ... ... Special Olympics volunteer from 2004-09.

Brendan McIntee, Freestyle/Backstroke, Plano, Texas/Plano West Senior

Lettered all four years in swimming at Plano West Senior High ... Served as team captain as a senior ... Earned 11 All-America and 16 all-state selections ... Two-time Dallas Morning News all-area first-team honoree ... Texas 5A state champion in 500 freestyle ... Set school records in 200 and 500 freestyle, as well as 200 and 400 freestyle relays and 200 medley relay ... First-team all-region in water polo.

Greg Pelton, Freestyle/Backstroke, Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield

Received four varsity letters in swimming at Loyola Blakefield High School ... Three-time All-American ... Named Scholastic All-American on three occasions ... Set a national age group record in 50 freestyle ... Established the Southern Regional Sectional meet record in 100 and 200 backstroke .... National Honor Society ... Harvard Book Award.

Greg Roop, Butterfly/Freestyle, Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School

Four-time letterwinner in swimming at The Baylor School ... Captained swimming team three times ... Two-time recipient of Scholar-Athlete Award and Coach's Award ... Set a national record in 200 medley reley and 200 freestyle relay ... Established state records in 200 and 400 free relay and 200 medley relay ... Owns the school record in 100 butterfly, 200 and 400 free relay and 200 medley relay ... Helped The Baylor School to Independent School national titles in 2008 and 2009 ... National Honor Society ...
