Men’s Soccer Outlasted by Columbia, 2-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's soccer team (3-12, 1-5 Ivy) fell 2-1 to Columbia (10-4-1, 5-1-0 Ivy) on Senior Day at Jordan Field. Senior Cesar Farias Jr. tallied the Crimson goal on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute.

Four of Harvard's eight shot attempts were on goal, led by Håvard Hjermstad who registered two of two shots on target.

Columbia put itself on the scoreboard first in the fifth minute when Dylan Mott banged home a cross from Sebastian Gunbeyi. Later in the half, Farias Jr. would even the score with his third goal of the season.

The Lions would take the lead for good in the 51st minute when Dylan Mott knocked in a header off a corner kick.

  • Matt Freese made three saves in net.
  • First-years were responsible for six of eight shot attempts

Game Notes

  • Columbia totaled 15 shot attempts with five on goal while Harvard put four of eight attempts on target.
  • Columbia took seven corner kicks to Harvard's three.

Harvard will close out the 2018 season on the road at Penn next Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
