  • Sam Brown ’18 Selected 17th Overall in MLS SuperDraft, Highest Pick in Men’s Soccer History

    CHICAGO – Sam Brown, a recent graduate of the Harvard men’s soccer program, has been selected 17th overall in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Friday, Jan. 11 by Real Salt Lake. Brown is the ninth player in program history to be drafted but the first to be selected in the first round. Harvard’s last draft pick was Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu in 2017, who went to Atlanta United FC and recently won the MLS Cup with the club.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Matt Freese of the Harvard men’s soccer team has chosen to forgo his final two years of NCAA eligibility, signing a pro contract with the Philadelphia Union as announced by the organization this morning (Dec. 21).

    NEW YORK – Sam Brown of the Harvard men’s soccer team has been invited to the 2019 Adidas MLS Player Combine, scheduled for Jan. 3-9 in Orlando, Fla., as announced by Major League Soccer today (Dec. 13). Brown is one of 60 college players invited to showcase their talent in front of all 24 MLS teams in early January, leading up to the 2019 SuperDraft on Jan. 11.

Freese landed a spot on the Second Team All-Ivy for the first time in his career while Brown was named honorable mention, the third All-Ivy postseason award of his career.

    PHILADELPHIA – The Harvard men’s soccer team (3-13, 1-6 Ivy) closed out the 2018 season with a 1-0 double overtime loss at Penn (4-5-6, 1-4-1 Ivy) tonight. Eduardo Cedeño, Nate Devine, Cesar Farias Jr., Nathan Goldberg and Matt Hatter all took the field for the final time in a Crimson jersey.

  • Lightning Forces Cancellation of Men’s Soccer Game at Northeastern

    BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Harvard men’s soccer team (3-10) saw its non-conference tilt with Northeastern (5-7-1) cancelled due to weather on Tuesday night. After waiting out a 47-minute lightning delay early in the first half, persistent thunderstorms forced the match to be suspended and consequently cancelled in the 61st minute. The NCAA requires 70 complete minutes to count as a full game.

First, the Crimson will head across town to take on Northeastern (5-7-1, 2-3-1 CAA) on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. Later in the week, Harvard will return to Ivy League action, going head-to-head with Dartmouth (4-5-5, 1-1-2 Ivy) on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m.

While the Crimson stayed competitive wire-to-wire and registered a season high 16 shots, the Bears capitalized on an opportunity in the 103rd minute to take the win.

Taner Dogan made the final strike, recording his second goal of the season while Cesar Farias Jr. tallied the equalizer late in the second half. Paolo Belloni-Urso added his team-leading third assist of the season on Dogan’s game-winner while Nate Devine registered his first assist on Farias Jr.’s score.
