CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Gerry Byrne, The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse, has named Al Lattell as the program's operations coordinator today, August 13. Lattell shifts to the role after two years as an assistant coach and one year as an operations coordinator with the Crimson.
"There is no greater calling for me than to utilize lacrosse as a vehicle to enhance the development of student-athletes," said Lattell. "Over my time as a coach, the desire to utilize the two hours a day, 20 hours a week, for four years of a student's life to teach life lessons that will stick with them for the next 40 or 50 years has been my true passion."
Lattell continues his career at Harvard after spending time at Boston University as the operations coordinator from 2015-17. At BU, he oversaw day-to-day operations of the men's and women's lacrosse programs, coordinated travel, oversaw student managers and handled alumni relations. Prior to serving as an assistant coach for four seasons, including the program's first two years at the Division I level, Lattell was a four-year member and two-time captain of the men's club team at BU.
"I am so excited about this new opportunity here at Harvard to enhance the student-athlete development experience at a place that is second to no other," continued Lattell. "The support, resources, passion and excitement here at Harvard for the lacrosse program and our student-athletes is inspirational, and I could not be more excited for the future of this program, our players and the greater Harvard Lacrosse family. I am grateful to Coach Byrne for this opportunity, as well as the support from administration here at Harvard for enabling me to pursue this passion."
A 2008 graduate of Boston University with a bachelor's degree in political science, Lattell later received his master's degree from UMass Boston in 2012. A native of Longmeadow, Mass., Lattell currently resides in Boston.
